Top-selling rapper Cardi B posted a video to her official Instagram account Wednesday urging her fans to get mad about the ongoing government shutdown.
The 26-year-old New York-based rapper, who has been nominated for five Grammy awards, took to Instagram to air her frustrations over President Trump forcing federal government employees to work without pay as the shutdown continues. She also shut down conservatives equating Trump’s shutdown with the government shutdown of 2013, when President Barack Obama was in office.
“This shit is really fucking serious bro,” Cardi B said. “This shit is crazy. Our country is in a hellhole right now, all for a fucking wall.”
“I feel like we need to take some action,” she continued. “I’m scared. This is crazy. And I really feel bad for these people who gotta go to fucking work to not get motherfucking paid.”
Cardi B is currently in the midst of a tour, with concerts in multiple U.S. cities planned throughout 2019. The fact that she’s “scared” about the shutdown suggests the rapper has more than likely had to contend with frantic airport security struggling to keep enough TSA workers on hand to screen airline passengers and make sure flights are secure.
However, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper is also frequently outspoken on political issues. She endorsed progressive insurgent candidate Cynthia Nixon in New York’s Democratic gubernatorial primary last year (most notably after her rival, Nicki Minaj, endorsed Governor Andrew Cuomo). And in a 2018 interview, she praised President Franklin Delano Roosevelt for creating Social Security, prompting a tweet of support from Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont).
